The CEO of General Motors – Rick Wagoner – decided to do just that. Instead of enduring the questions from Congress about taking a private jet to the meeting this time, he decided to take a road trip to the nation’s capital in one of the automaker’s fuel-efficient vehicles. Wagoner is just one of several officials involved with the automotive industry that is appearing before Congress to make the case for a bailout.
The drive from Detroit to Washington, D.C. is about 10 hours depending on traffic and weather along the way. However, a spokesperson for General Motors said they would not announce when Wagoner was leaving or if he was stopping along the way for security reasons. “There’s a lot of security concerns. There’s also the idea of a circus that we’re trying to avoid,” said the spokesperson.
