An engineer named Zora Arkus-Duntov conbined a 4.6 liter version of Chevrolet’s new V8 and combined it with a four speed manual transmission. This gave the Corvette what it needed to compete with other sports cars like the Thunderbird.

Corvette buffs now have an extra reason to see the upcoming movie Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Hasbro recently announced that the Autobot, Sideswipe, will take the form of the Corvette Centennial Concept.

Sideswipe, who was a Lamborghini in the original Transformers cartoons from years gone by, is a “rule-bending but loyal  Autobot warrior out to take down the evil Decepticons.”

This won’t be the first movie to feature the Corvette, of course.
