The New Chevrolet Equinox
This crossover has a car-like platform combined with the convenience of a sport utility vehicle. With a V6 engine and other features, the newest edition of the Equinox is sure to make an impression at the Detroit show.

Did you ever think the federal government would institute a new Chevrolet car czar to oversee the business matters of this popular automaker? It’s one of the ideas being tossed around in Congress and it could be a reality!

Chevrolet cars wouldn’t be the only ones affected by an appointed “car czar.” The Big Three automakers asking for bailout money would be subject to such an overseer as part of an agreement to them accepting the money. The overseer would be part of the Commerce Department and the person in this position would also have the power to restructure companies or force them to declare bankruptcy.

Some members of Congress want to give the makers Chevrolet car maker and other automakers the emergency bailout money now with the condition that President-elect Obama could name an overseer when he takes office.

Either way, the spokesperson for the White House said that they will insist that “taxpayer assistance only be considered for companies willing to make the difficult decisions across the scope of their businesses to be viable and competitive in the future.”

Earlier this year, bloggers were going crazy talking about the soaring gas prices. I’ll admit…I was one of them. The main reason for the drop in gas prices is the price of a barrel of oil. In July, this price hit an all-time high at $147.27 for a barrel. Combine that with lower demand for gas and other factors and it’s very possible that prices could go back to the 1999 prices of about a buck for a gallon of gas.

I’m always for lower prices. But even if gas prices don’t go back down to a dollar a gallon, I wouldn’t complain about where the prices are at right now. Where I live, I’m paying about $1.70 for a gallon and I would expect prices to be a little higher than they were in 1999. But I certainly won’t complain if they drop even more.

There have been all sorts of rumors floating around about Chevrolet’s brand new Corvette. Many have stated that the next-generation C7 Chevy Corvette will include a dual-clutch version, for instance, or that it will be able to fly through the air. Okay, so maybe that last one doesn’t have much of a basis in reality.

One of the rumors floating around about the C7 Chevy Corvette that is gaining some steam is that its release will be delayed because of current economic problems and because of a little something known as the CAFE regulations. The upcoming CAFE regulations are in regards to fuel economy standards. The regulations were passed by the United States House of Representatives and will serve to be part of a long-range energy bill that could threaten the production of vehicles that have less than desirable fuel economy standards.

Many are suggesting that the new Corvette might struggle in this area. The economic woes of Chevrolet and General Motors are perhaps also to blame for the rumors of delayed release.

There is more to this story than just rumors, sadly. A report from AutoWeek magazine has stated that Chevrolet has put production of the new C7 Corvette on “indefinite hold.” What that will mean for the car company and for other Chevy cars remains to be seen, but we will keep our eyes on the story and bring you all of the updates.
