New Chevrolet Volt Plant to Get $30 Million

A recent announcement from General Motors promised to build a U.S.-based plant to build the new Chevrolet Volt batteries. The automaker plans to pump about $30 million into the plant which is currently scheduled to open in 2010 in Michigan.

“We chose Chevy because we can’t be niche with the Volt. We have to make it a mass-production vehicle,” said Ed Peper, GM’s North American vice president of the Chevrolet brand.

The Volt has been designed to go about 40 miles on one charge. GM hopes the new Chevrolet Volt will be one of the products that will bring customers back to the automaker despite the tightening credit restrictions that has contributed to falling sales figures and other problems for domestic automakers. “We are starting to see credit loosen up slightly, not that much yet, but it is particularly important at the low end of the market,” Peper explained.

The new Chevrolet Volt isn’t available at your local dealers just yet, but there are many other Chevrolet cars you can purchase until the Volt is delivered. Check out the inventory at a Chevrolet dealer today and be impressed!

Distracted Driving and Your New Chevrolet

If you’re driving around in your new Chevrolet cars, you want to be as attentive and observant as to what’s going on around you as possible. Driver distractions can cause horrible accidents and even fatalities depending on the conditions and the situation. Here are some facts about distracted driving so you can be a more attentive driver.

• According to the California DMV, 80 percent of accidents occur because one of the drivers involved was distracted three seconds before the collision.
• Holding a cell phone while you are driving has been shown to be as dangerous as driving while intoxicated.
• Your auto insurance rates could go up as much as 40 percent if you are involved in an accident.
• Eating and drinking while driving are distractions and spills often cause accidents. Pull over when you’re eating and be extra careful when drinking a beverage if you’re driving.
• Bring a small tape recorder to record any thoughts you may have while you’re driving instead of writing down notes.
• Use common sense. Don’t take your eyes off the road even for a second.

There is no legitimate excuse for distracted driving. You have a responsibility to others on the road when you sit behind the wheel of a car. Be safe and attentive when you’re driving…it’s just common courtesy.

Michigan to Make Battery Pack for New Chevrolet Car

Rumors have been swirling around about the viability of General Motors and its role in the near future of the auto industry due to economic problems. But the most recognized domestic automaker responded to some of those rumors at this week’s International North American Auto Show in Detroit by displaying a sign at its exhibits that read: “Here to stay.”

One major victory for GM is the announcement that it’s going to assemble the battery packs for the upcoming Volt, one of the new Chevrolet cars on tap for the automaker. The Volt is an electric-drive vehicle and those battery packs are going to be built in Michigan, the home state of the auto industry. The announcement represents a “real opportunity” for the state and the region that has been hit hard in recent years by decreasing numbers of available manufacturing jobs.

The announcement combined with the recent money from the federal government seemed to give the automaker a renewed sense of encouragement and enthusiasm. Workers rallied around the stage at one time on Monday and chanted messages like, “Let’s go, GM” and “100 more years!”

Other new Chevrolet cars that engineers are working on include the Chevrolet Spark and the Chevrolet Orlando. Both vehicles are promising superior fuel efficiency and they are slated to hit the North American market in 2011.

New Chevrolet Equinox Reaches Huge Milestones

The new Chevrolet Equinox that is being perfected by General Motors has already reached a major milestone in the game of eco-friendly vehicles. More than 100 of these new Chevrolet models are on the roads right now and according to Ed Peper, the General Manager of Chevrolet, those cars will have logged more than a half million miles last week. “We have done what no other competitor has done…driven a half-million miles with zero petroleum and leaving a carbon footprint of zero,” said Peper regarding the new Chevrolet fuel cell technology. No other company has been able to put more than 100 fuel cell vehicles on the road prior to this program.

This whole process is part of the automaker’s Project Driveway, a program in which automakers are trying to make fuel cell vehicles available to the general public. The program began in October of last year and officials plan to continue it until 2010. “The vehicles are performing very well and we are learning a great deal about fuel cell robustness and how to make this program work for real customers,” said GM’s director of fuel cell commercialization. So far, more than 3,400 people have driven these efficient Chevrolet cars as part of media events or other occasions. Could you be next?

Which Chevrolet Cars Would Santa Drive?

Of all the Chevrolet cars that Santa would drive, the new Chevrolet Equinox might be on his short list of choices. Unfortunately, these new Chevrolet cars won’t be on sale until the summer. That hasn’t stopped the automaker from showing it off every chance it gets.

The new 2010 Equinox is going to be between a midsize SUV and a compact SUV. That way, it might get a portion of both segments. These Chevrolet cars are also boasting of 30 miles to the gallon on the highway with a four-cylinder front-wheel drive. Under the hood, drivers can feel the power of 182 horses with the smaller engine and 255 horses with the V6 engine. Both versions have a six-speed automatic transmission.

New Chevrolet Models Gearing Up for Auto Show

General Motors is ready to showcase several new Chevrolet models at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Here are some of the new Chevrolet models you can expect to see at the show and at your local dealer in the near future.

The New Chevrolet Cruze
This new compact car is supposed to get upwards of 40 miles to the gallon on the highways. This isn’t just any compact car, though. It’s more “refined and attractive than any previous small car,” according to Detroit Free Press writer Mark Phelan.

The New Chevrolet Equinox
This crossover has a car-like platform combined with the convenience of a sport utility vehicle. With a V6 engine and other features, the newest edition of the Equinox is sure to make an impression at the Detroit show.

General Motors is also planning to debut other models in January at the show, including a replacement for the Malibu and other Chevrolet cars. If you’re in the area next month, stop by and take a gander at all the new cars you’ll see on dealer lots before long.

Could New Chevrolet Car Czar be a Reality?

Did you ever think the federal government would institute a new Chevrolet car czar to oversee the business matters of this popular automaker? It’s one of the ideas being tossed around in Congress and it could be a reality!

Chevrolet cars wouldn’t be the only ones affected by an appointed “car czar.” The Big Three automakers asking for bailout money would be subject to such an overseer as part of an agreement to them accepting the money. The overseer would be part of the Commerce Department and the person in this position would also have the power to restructure companies or force them to declare bankruptcy.

Some members of Congress want to give the makers Chevrolet car maker and other automakers the emergency bailout money now with the condition that President-elect Obama could name an overseer when he takes office.

Either way, the spokesperson for the White House said that they will insist that “taxpayer assistance only be considered for companies willing to make the difficult decisions across the scope of their businesses to be viable and competitive in the future.”

If you’ve invested in a new Chevrolet car in the last few years, you know that the automaker has made great strides in new technology and fuel economy in order to compete in today’s changing market. You can be assured they will continue to be a competitor in the auto industry for years to come.

Looking at the New Chevrolet 2009 Avalanche

The new Chevrolet 2009 Avalanche has come a long way since its 2002 predecessor won Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year Award. Even though it won such a prestigious award that year, the new Chevrolet Avalanche is much better this year than it has ever been! Here are some changes you may notice in these new Chevrolet cars.

The Hyrda Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission is one of the most noticeable changes for the 2009 Avalanche. This new transmission increases gas mileage and reduces engine noise for a quieter and more enjoyable ride.

The new Chevrolet Avalanche also has many more features than its 2002 predecessor. The backup camera is one of the new safety features that allows drivers to see what is behind them before they back up. It also assists drivers when pulling into tight parking spots and reduces the “bumps” many drivers use to see how close they are to the parked vehicle behind them. There is also a state-of-the-art navigation system included in the 2009 Avalanche, giving drivers more peace of mind on those long road trips. Finally, rain-sensing wipers give drivers a truly unique and enjoyable experience behind the wheel regardless of the weather outside.
